Firefree 88® ('Ff88') is a premium intumescent fire-resistant coating tested to comply with many fire rating performances prescribed under the Australian Building Code as well as many US and international construction codes. Firefree 88 - a fire resistant, intumescent coating applied like paint to structural materials - creates a highly effective thermal barrier for fire protection & safety in buildings & homes. Services Offered. Dawn of justice free. FfE on its own does not have fire retardant properties, but its application on surfaces coated with FfA or Ff88 will allow use of such products in exterior applications, if used in strict compliance with Firefree's recommendations. Firefree 88 has been tested to create an effective barrier to the spread of fire for up to 2 hours. This provides time to help evacuate the building safely, and time for emergency workers to.

FF88 Intumescent, Water-Based Coating for Building Materials
Firefree88 (FF88) is a water-based, intumescent coating that can withstand extreme temperatures (up to 2000° Fahrenheit) for an extended period of time (up to two hours).
Firefree88 is the first coating to bring a true fire barrier to a wide variety of materials and assemblies including gypsum wallboard, wood, lath and plaster, concrete, sheet metal, tin, foam, foam composite panels, as well as more advanced materials such as fiberglass and carbon fiber. (FF88 is not designed for use on structural steel.)
As a result, FF88 provides a high level of fire protection for the benefit of many diverse industries, including construction, insulation and transportation (land, air, sea). Introduction to the FireFree88® System (2:05)
FF88 is unique because of its unmatched level of performance both as a fire retardant (prevents flame spread/flashover) and as a fire resistant (resists fire penetration).
As a result of its high performance in limiting flame spread and fire penetration, FF88 has the proven ability to contain a fire by preventing both (i) the occurrence of flashovers and (ii) the fire from penetrating walls and ceilings, thus resulting in saving lives and preserving the structural integrity of property.
FF88's performance is truly unique because of its high level of performance both as a fire retardant and as a fire resistant coating.
Firefree

Firefree88 is a very cost effective method to provide fireproofing, often resulting in 40% to 60% savings compared to traditional methods, which often require massive amounts of material and labor and which inconvenience building occupants.
What does FF88 do?
Over the past several years, Firefree88 has been widely demonstrated and tested.
Based on prescribed testing, FF88 has clearly demonstrated that, depending on the dry mil thickness applied to walls, San Francisco Live Burn (6:44) ceilings and other construction assemblies and materials, it can resist a fire up to 2000° Fahrenheit for up to two hours and can contribute to the containment of fire.
Containment is recognized as an effective code mandated fire safety requirement for fire resistance and fire safety design and is expressed in the proper design of fire rated party walls, ceilings, shafts, access and egress corridors.
How does FF88 work?

Firefree 88 Where To Buy

When exposed to a heat source of approximately 350° Fahrenheit, FF88 will begin to intumesce, or expand, forming a protective barrier between the flame source and the substrate to which the coating was applied.
This barrier will prevent the fire from penetrating the walls and ceilings made of such substrate. Side-by-Side Corner Test (3:44) Without Firefree 88, as the initial materials burn, fire will penetrate walls and ceilings, leading to their rapid deterioration and a resulting spread of the flames to adjoining rooms.
Additionally, the penetration of the fire in the walls and ceilings will lead to their contributing to the fire itself, by becoming fuel to the initial flames.

Firefree 88 Tested With Concrete Block

With Firefree 88, walls and ceilings will resist fire penetration thereby helping to contain the initial fire to the room of origin.

  • Firefree Class A tested on 7/16' OSB at 20 mils (.020 inch) dry achieved a flame spread index of zero (0) and smoke developed index of ten (10), and show no evidence of significant progressive combustion when the test is continued for an additional 20-minute period.
  • Firefree Class A tested on ¾' OSB at 15 (.015 inch) dry achieved a flame spread index of zero (0) and smoke developed index of 15.
  • Firefree Class A tested on 2x6 T&G Douglas fir at 8 mils (.008 inch) dry achieved a flame spread index of zero (0) and smoke developed index of 45.
  • Firefree Class A, coated with 6 mils dry of Ff Exterior Topcoat, tested on 5/8' T1-11 Douglas Fir at 20 mils (.020) achieved a flame spread index of zero (0) and smoke developed index of 0.

In addition to the testing performed, although it is not required by the test standard, char damage measurements were taken to effectively show the high performance level of the coating. Based on the results obtained from the 30 minute extended test, the wood materials tested showed minimal char damage, showing FFA's ability to assist in maintaining the structural integrity of the wood materials in a fire situation.
